Got an email from Binghamton for a mentoring program taking place in Johnson City Middle School. It naturally struck my curiosity as I had been a mentee before, and as a young adult in college about to start my life, I felt the need to give back what I had been given in advice and experience from prior mentors. Unfortunately, at the last part of the application I needed a referral from a BU professor, and as a recent transfer who had not yet completed a semester at Binghamton, I was unable to provide any referral. I depressingly typed in “First semester” in the blank referral information page.I clicked submit.
Today I checked my email only to find out I was selected for an interview.
I don’t care about the potential two credits the program offers me, nor the Gen Eds it may fulfill. To make a difference in a kid’s life as my mentors helped achieve in mine is what I’m interested in. It’s nice to give back.
